ext. suburban household - ALLEN ST. - ROCHESTER VALLEY SUBURBS - EVENING

a white house sits nestled into a quiet suburban NEIGHBOURHOOD, it’s late and all the lights in the house are off, allowing for an easy escape. a teenage boy hops over the back fence, quickly walks down the driveway, spots the jeep and gets in the driver’s seat… well his dad’s jeep but for tonigh’s purpose, it’s his.

the boy, a 19 year-old teen, 5’9, brown curly hair, sporting a white t-shirt hidden under a red & purple flannel, a pair of boot cut blue jeans, and a pair of timberland boots

he nervously starts the cover and rolls out of the driveway. the jeep bends around a corner down a suburban street, and the boys turns on his radio. he messes around until he stops at a statiom, 90.5 aesthetic sound thanks to “around the clock” by everett champion playing. a nervous twitch washes over the boy, he is excited but has no idea how the night will play out. he picks up his phone, types in his password and dials a number.

THE BOY
Hey man, what’s up?

OLIVER
Hey bro... I’m back in the city, what’re you doing tonight?

OLIVER OAKS, a 19-year old teen, 5’10, black curly messy hair, sporting a wrinkled beige t-shirt tucked into a pair of distressed black jeans and a pair of white Comme des Garçons x Converse high-top sneakers. A rose-gold, rose chain hangs from his neck.

THE BOY
Oh, I’m just headed to the drive-in

OLIVER
With that girl you’re always talking about?

THE BOY
Yeah man

OLIVER
Ahh man, I know what you’re up to dude, you better do it. I’d do the same thing if I were you, man she’s gonna be so surprised when you take out that-

the boy quickly hangs up on oliver, he doesn’t need any more pressure on him from his friends. all his friends ever talk about is sex, and he hates the fact that oliver thinks that’s why he is going to the drive-in tonight.

THE BOY
Ugh…

the boy slows the car down, pulling over in front of another suburban house and turning it off. the lights are all off, except for one on the 2nd floor of the house, right next to a big oak tree. he picks up his phone and dials another number.

THE GIRL
Lucy, we’re already half way there, he’s just getting some gas, and ugh it’s different this time

a red neon-lined diner sits in the center of the land, as 4 projectors fire films onto large screens in all 4 quadrants of the drive-in. from “pulp fiction” to “back to the future”, the drive-in is full of colours illuminating over the car lots and the smell of warm popcorn wafts through the air. a big neon sign hangs above the building with a smiling old man acting as the centrepiece as the words “frank’s diner and drive-in” surround him in bright yellow neon.

both the boy and the girl’s friends have discussed the beauty of the drive-in but no description could ever do the magical cinema centre justice.

THE BOY
Perfect we made it just in time, the previews are just ending

THE GIRL
Good morning

THE BOY
Good morning… wait morning?

THE GIRL
Oh god, we slept in! We were supposed to leave after the second movie! Oh no no no, my parents are gonna kill me. Your dad is gonna see the car is gone!

THE BOY
Oh shit shit... Wait! It’s only 5:30, my parents don’t wake up until 7 for work!

THE GIRL
Mine don’t until 8

THE BOY
We might be able to make it back before they wake up! We gotta leave now! We still have time!

the couple frantically scrambles to get their things together, but even though of the situation, they’re still smiling and laughing. they exit the drive-in and the boy reaches out for the girl’s hand, and the two drive off into the sunrise back home.
